I hope you all are doing well. I have been sailing on such peace of mind...and work. I taped a radio show with Host Pastor Shirley Russell for her Heaven600/Heaven600.com program: Peace of Mind! You must check out the photos...
I had a blast of a time with this Host and we became friends instantly! The show aired this morning and I am praising God for the surprise number of people who have already sent me e-mails saying they heard it! I did not even get around to promoting it yet...(sooo busy with healthcare reform. You are encouraging your senators/representatives to pass healthcare reform, right? I thought so.;)-
So, what's it like taping a radio show? Well, I won't give all the details away so when you tape your interview, you will be pleasantly surprised. First, it is different than appearing on television I learned. The big difference for me is that the radio show seemed less intimidating because you record in a closed room with just the host as opposed to having a television crew with lights and cameras present to distract you a bit. Don't you love distractions, though? Smile.
But don't worry...it is fun and I felt sooo accomplished with picking up a different, expanded audience through radio. Then, much to my surprise, the Host invited me back for another taping before the holidays! Praise God who already wrote the script as the Author and the Finisher...!
Ok, I also needed to let you know that the Baltimore Book Festival was a real blast and a huge, HUGE success!!!:)
OMG, I had no idea I would have so many sales. What a blessing it was to be able to speak to so many people and they invest in YOUR book! Total strangers who had either a sister, brother, parent, or friend with a brain disorder. This was the third time I nearly sold out of books in a single setting. (I'm starting keep more books in the car, too...wink, wink).
So, what can I share of value from my glorious weekend? Ok, here we go...at the risk of touching nerves, here, let me share that YOU cannot sit behind a table and expect to reach the largest audience for sales. YOU have to get right in the flow of people traffic and pitch your sale (I hate the word pitch, but just trying to keep it real;).
So, I set my table up nicely (check out the photos...) and then I walked around the table and got directly int the flow of traffic with a book in hand. (with practice you won't annoy people or make them trip...;)- I greeted folks and introduced myself and my book. I discussed briefly the need for mental wellness and I have noticed that people usually openly disclose their personal experience with a brain disorder as I relate bible scriptures to depression and ways to prevent a serious mental illness. Did you know that depression existed during biblical days?
One of the added joys for me is that people will usually disclose how having a family member or friend with a mental illness has left them not knowing what to do to really help. Halleluia! It is possible to understand your loved one with a mental illness and you only need compassion in your heart. Trust me, while there is NO cure for a brain disorder, it is possible to achieve peace of mind with a brain disorder. That is peace of mind for the person with the brain disorder and for the family member or friend.
